Scotland’s Rickey Burns successfully defended his WBO lightweight title with a near shutout unanimous decision over former WBA title holder Paulus Moses at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on Saturday night.
the 28-year-old Burns upped his record to 34 wins against just two losses (9 KOs) with a comprehensive display of boxing skills. The 5’10” Scott was rarely tested by the hard-hitting Moses, who saw his slate fall to 28-2 with 19 KOs. Burns can now look ahead to a dream domestic matchup against Essex stylist Kevin Mitchell, although the WBO may yet order him to face his mandatory challenger, Robert Guerrero.
“It was a good, hard 12 rounds,” said Burns afterward. “It was a tough fight but we expected that and we trained for it. I can see why he has had 19 knockouts. He did have a bit of a bang about him.”
